Why I am rooting for GM

One of the recent recipients of corporate bailouts has been General Motors.  Like other bailout programs this has received a lot of arguments as to why we should bail them out.  Many conservatives argue that it would be better for the company to declare bankruptcy and then restructure.  Others say that no one will buy a car from a bankrupt company so bankruptcy would be the death of GM.  I honestly do not know.  And I certainly understand why people are opposed to all of the government bailouts.

I am torn between these arguments because I do not want to see GM fail.  And in this case, I would rather that the government did intervene to make sure that they do not fold.  For one, I think that GM is just too important to the nation, the second is that GM is on the verge of releasing a car that will revolutionize the industry in a way that Toyota's Prius could only dream of.

The car is the Chevy Volt and it's release will began a change in this country that will mean less air pollution, less foreign oil, and more demand for American cars.

Some recent and encouraging news about this car can be found here.  I want this car to succeed.  I think we need for this car to succeed and because of this, I think we need to keep GM afloat awhile longer.
